At Ooni, we are committed to using business as a force for good. We’re beyond just ‘being less bad’ — we want everyone to have great pizza, and we want to do it in a way that leaves the world a better place for future generations. After all, we only have one planet to make pizza on, and we believe we have a responsibility to protect and restore it.

Our second annual Impact Report gives a detailed summary of our six key focus areas, the progress we made in 2022 and lays out what’s to come.

Our Roadmap towards a greater Positive Impact

Our roadmap will help us to deliver, measure and report our progress in the upcoming years. We’re focusing on 6 key areas:

Climate Action

We are in the midst of a climate emergency and an ecological crisis we can’t ignore. To avert the worst impacts of these crises, the world needs to get to net-zero emissions by 2050 at the very latest. We openly acknowledge that we are implicated and that businesses like us need to act with speed and bold ambition.

We have been working hard to measure our carbon footprint and now have a rigorous impact baseline, which includes every part of our supply chain.

Our next priority is turning words into actions — in short, reducing our emissions and developing our carbon removal strategy by using science to inform our decisions. You can view our Impact Report at the link above to explore our full carbon footprint breakdown and goals for the future.

Ooni Impact Fund

Through our partnership with 1% for the Planet, we allocate 1% of our turnover from our Fyra ovens to be donated to verified environmental organisations around the world. We want to create the most meaningful impact possible for planet and people.

We’ve partnered with Eden Reforestation Projects to sponsor two reforestation sites — one in Madagascar and one in Kenya. Both mangrove sites are home to vibrant but endangered coastal ecosystems.

We are in our fourth year of partnership, and so far:

  • We have planted over 4 million trees. We are now a “Forest Level Partner”.
  • These mangroves could absorb more than 1,096,728* metric tonnes of CO2 over their lifetime.
  • The projects employ 74 people (full-time) from the local community to plant trees and protect the area.
  • We have pledged enough money to cover 10,000 days of work so that our planters and guards have guaranteed steady employment in the future.

* These are not verified carbon offsets. This is based on an 81% survival rate using metrics taken from Eden research.

In 2022, we supported Mad Agriculture’s mission to create a regenerative revolution in agriculture and reinvent the food system. Our donation sustains a project that helps farmers grow heritage and ancient grains, which can increase biodiversity, drastically reduce chemical and fossil fuel inputs, build soil health and improve carbon storage. These grains also have a richer flavour and higher nutrition content, and are much more resilient to climate change.

We donate 1% of all revenue generated by Ooni accessory purchases to social causes with a focus on food security and poverty reduction. We work closely with Social Bite, Slice Out Hunger and other initiatives that align with our values and mission statement.

Zero Waste

Our overarching aim is to minimise waste across our offices, operations, products and packaging and make products that last.

We focus on durability and reparability and we’re continuously searching for ways to make our products more resource-efficient and circular.

We’re proud to say that our oven packaging is at least 97%* recyclable and made of renewable materials. Our goals for the coming years include developing 100%-recyclable packaging and increasing the percentage of recycled material we use to protect our ovens as they make their way to you.

Check out the recycling information for our groceries packaging (US,UK) to learn how to responsibly reuse, recycle or dispose of our packaging!

*This calculation was not completed in accordance with EN 13430 methodology and is a general assessment based on UK local recyclability rates, with % recyclability calculated by weight. Please always check your local provider's capabilities before recycling.

Social Responsibility

People represent another key measure of success for us, so we make the happiness of our customers, our teams and the welfare of everyone in our supply chain a huge priority. We support the ten principles of the UN Global Compact with respect to human rights, labour, environment and anti-corruption.

In 2021, we established our ethical trade programme and put strong foundations in place. We’re mapping all of our production suppliers, undertaking due diligence, conducting audits and working with our suppliers on continuous improvement plans.

We’ve identified our production supply chain as our highest risk area, but at Ooni, Social Responsibility also covers all the communities we impact. We want to work together with our teams, our suppliers and the Ooni community to share the joy of making pizza whilst enriching the broader system that we’re all part of.

Have a read of our Modern Slavery Statements below for more detail:

At Ooni we are committed to ensuring the human rights of people working within our operations and supply chains around the world are respected and protected. We do not tolerate any form of modern slavery anywhere within our business or supply chains.

Our Modern Slavery Statements show our commitments and the steps we’ve taken annually towards identifying and preventing modern slavery and human trafficking within our business and supply chains.

Transparency & Reporting

We want to show everyone what we’re doing, where we’re at and what’s to come (lots!), and we want to inspire other companies to follow our lead. With so much corporate greenwashing happening around us, we believe honesty, transparency and action are the way forward.

We’ve published our second annual Impact Report as a key part of this: check it out above. We’ve produced this SECR document that highlights our assumptions made and methodology used in our carbon footprint calculations for our 2022 Impact Report. You can find more about our impact journey in our 2021 Impact Report here.

We’ve also joined the Better Business Act Coalition, calling for a change in UK law to ensure every company takes ownership of its social and environmental impact.

Collective Action*

We’re a kind business filled with kind people. Being a “company for good” is in the Ooni DNA. Because of this, we’re ambitious and always push to do better!

It will take a lot of work to swiftly reduce our business climate impact, and our team and community will play a key role. We’ve partnered with several initiatives to equip and empower our team to take climate action at home and at work: Pawprint, Count Us In, Do Nation and organising our first Impact Day for our team members to get involved with COP26 in 2021.

Climate change is an all-encompassing issue, and as such, it demands collaboration and collective action. We need to work together with our partners and the Ooni community to create dialogue and collectively achieve our climate goals.

We’d love to hear your ideas on how we can shape Ooni for the better, so please email them to us at impact@ooni.com.
